Dissolved Organic Carbon, model builders, and linked Excel data are just some of the many concepts that The ABCs of DOC will tackle this semester! This blog will act as my semester-long journal for my independent study work in NRSC 375 at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. I will be working under the supervision of Professor Jeffrey Cardille to complete a practical application of concepts that I have learned while completing my Geographic Information Systems minor for my graduation in May.
I will specifically be working with satellite imagery
that will be analysed to indicate and classify the amount of Dissolved Organic
Carbon deposited in lakes. I will apply and learn about further applications of
remote sensing, computer programing, coding, among others. For example, I will learn
about and be working with the model-building program in ArcMap in order to
write my own model builder script. Additionally, in order to gain further theoretical
background about the concepts that I will be working with, I will complete by the 15th of April an
exploratory paper regarding the implementation of satellite imagery
and GIS programs in research for analysing Dissolved Organic Carbon.
The ABCs of DOC promises to be an exciting adventure cataloguing my struggles, scripts, and revelations that accompany the long hours working on my independent study!
